A Joy-filled Education

The monotony of school has squashed the joy out of education.
The good news: in homeschooling we are able to completely change that! That kids are often eager and excited to work on their schoolwork for the day. Of course we have days of grumbling and tears. But overall, there is a huge difference in the attitude in children when homeschooled versus going to school. We set the tone for our home and homeschool. There are so many ways to add an element of joy and excitement to learning.

Routine is good, but not every day has to be the same. The flexibility of homeschooling is wonderful. We can take a day off randomly or take our schoolwork with us on a trip. We can play games and find creative ways to make learning fun and exciting. You can play music in the background while working on schoolwork. Bake cookies together. Bribe your child with candy. Do experiments. Use manipulatives and hands on activities to bring math to life. Read the classics out loud. Show your child how God ordered the universe. He is why language exists, why math works, why we love seeing art and listening to music… He created all of the various birds that we can learn about.

This picture says it all! This is Joseph. He was 5 at the time this picture was taken. It was a beautiful fall day and he was playing outside and making leaf piles with his big sister.

His pure joy and enthusiasm for life is a gift. It teaches me to find simple joys. And by being able to be home with my children and homeschool them, I get to be a part of these joy-filled moments!
